EH Championship National Finals and details for 2021/22 Re-Registration

Secretary Repton HC7 Jul 2021 - 18:30

As we head to the club's summer break, after an extended season

Last weekend saw the last competitive club hockey action for the 2020/21 season and we are incredibly grateful to England Hockey for their hard work to ensure a form of the Championships could go ahead this summer after such limited hockey due to Covid restrictions.

EH Championship Update

After a brilliant Championship run over the past 3 months, the U14 Girls, sponsored by MT13 Hockey, headed to Nottingham Hockey Centre for a triangular tournament in the EH National Finals. Over the course of the competition 22 different players have been included in matches and, with an ever changing squad due to Covid availability issues, the team have gone from strength to strength since returning to the pitch post lockdown. With many of the squad coming from the U12 and U13 age group this was their first step up to 11 aside hockey and coaches Hannah Davey and Martin Jones have worked hard to help them develop their awareness and understanding of this form of the game.

The girls faced the toughest matches of the competition on Saturday against Trojans HC (0-2) and winners HC Knole Park (1-4) and should be proud of their achievement taking bronze in the National Finals with many of them remaining in the age group to battle again next season! Well done to the whole squad who played their part across the whole season - everyone who has been involved with the U14s squad has said what a delightful group of girls they are and they have represented the club exceptionally on the National stage.

The Women's 1st XI, sponsored by SCC, have had a really impressive Championship run beating National League teams to reach the semi-finals this weekend, hosting Premier Division side Clifton Robinsons HC. The Repton Women held the opposition to a 1-1 Half Time score in what was an excellent test for this ambitious squad as well as a really entertaining game for the crowd. Although Repton HC dominated much of the possession in the second half it was Clifton that calmly converted their opportunities to win 3-1. We wish them the best of luck in next Saturday's National final vs East Grinstead HC.

Missing from the squad for the semi-final was U16s and Women's 1st XI players Tilly Butterworth and Ottilie Sykes. They, alongside U16s and Men's 1st XI player Harry Stone, were called up to represent England U16s in matches vs Wales and should be incredibly proud to have achieved this honour, a testament to their hard work and commitment throughout the NAGs selection period.

Whilst our EH Championship hockey is now over for this season the Men's Summer League begins this week at Nottingham Hockey Centre and runs weekly through July and August. We are also really excited for our U12 and U14 teams who are headed to this summer's Repton Cup, a residential tournament featuring clubs from across the country and run by Head Coach Martin Jones.

Survey Results
Thank you to all those members who took the time to complete the online survey we recently sent out to give feedback on the club. All feedback was completely confidential and has been really helpful for the Committee to review as we make plans for next season. In summary, 66% of the responses received ranked the overall satisfaction with the club at the highest level of 5 and 87% ranked it as a 4 or 5.
We understand this Covid affected season was unusual which was acknowledged by some of the responders. We have taken on board the general comment of more matches for certain age groups and will review in line with the England Hockey calendar to incorporate into planning for the 2021-22 season where appropriate.
